Boston Early Music Festival Family Day program is designed for children and their parents. This interactive program is designed to highlight the many instruments on display in the exhibit all in one room. Kids can learn how many of these instruments are made, how they work, who played them, how they evolved to present day “familiar instruments,” and most important, what they sound like.
This is an inspiring presentation that changes from each festival year that will engage children and adults alike. BEMF Director of Education David Coffin is well-versed in this venue as he spends the school year traveling to schools throughout New England presenting his Early Wind Instruments Enrichment Program.
The BEMF 2009 Family Day will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 10am and 1pm at the Radisson Hotel 6th Floor Conference Center at 200 Stuart Street, Boston.
Featuring a program entitled Music for the King's Court: Exploring the Early Winds, children and parents alike will be captivated by this historical overview of wind instruments, which encourages even the most reluctant youngster to try the rare and curious instruments of the past. David will have a wide collection of recorders, lutes, shawms, and rackets, and will also bring children and their parents on a guided tour of the BEMF Exhibition for short demonstrations by a selection of instrument makers around the world. Admission for children is FREE with an adult with a BEMF Pass.
The largest and most respected early music festival in the world, BEMF's “weeklong extravaganza of early music” (The Boston Herald) includes a fully-staged Baroque opera masterpiece, concerts by the world’s leading soloists and ensembles, nearly one hundred Fringe Concerts by established and emerging artists, dozens of Performance Masterclasses, Public Symposia, Pre-opera Lectures and the world-famous Exhibition, uniting thousands of early music professionals and enthusiasts in our living laboratory of early music.
